Oceana County is located in the western part of the lower peninsula, bordered on the west by Lake Michigan and traversed by US-31. The county contains 541 square miles and is the 64th largest in the state. The county seat is Hart. About 40 percent of the land is in farms in the heart of the state's fruit belt. Manufacturing includes food processing and fabricated metal products. The Manistee National Forest covers 530,000 acres in the county. Other state parks, lakes, and recreation areas offer hunting, fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
